In 1972, after working for another contractor, Richard Kane started his own business, then called Acoustic Ceilings by Richard. Another contractor, seeing Richards quickly growing client base, began advertising under the name Richard. Richard decided that since he was first, he would name his business Acoustic Ceilings by Original Richard.

At first, he worked out of his garage and had family members assisting as office help. The business quickly grew as customers saw the quality of his work and and his attention to service. In 1990 Richard moved the business to its present location in Wilmington, California.

Until 1976 Richard's business consisted mainly of installing acoustic ceilings. At that time he branched out into other services.
